Privacy Policy

Linxshot is built to keep your screenshots on your device. This policy explains what the Linxshot browser extension and this website handle, and when anything leaves your browser.

Last updated: November 6, 2026

In short

  • Captures, links and your library are stored locally in your browser.
  • No analytics, ads or tracking, and no account to create.
  • Data leaves your browser only when you create a share link, sign up for launch notifications or, once available, activate a Pro license.
  • We don’t sell your data.

What stays on your device

When you take a capture, Linxshot saves the following in your browser’s local storage (IndexedDB and extension storage):

  • The screenshot image and any annotations, crops or masks you add
  • The page address and title, and the address, text and position of each link in the capture
  • The visible page text inside the capture, used only to make your library searchable
  • Folders, favorites and settings such as language and hotspot color

Captures you delete stay in Recently deleted for 30 days and are then removed. All of this stays in your browser profile; uninstalling the extension or clearing its data removes it. Library backups (.linxshot files) are created only when you export them, and you choose where they are saved.

Extension permissions

activeTab, scripting
Read the page you choose to capture (its image, link positions and visible text), and only when you start a capture.
contextMenus
Add capture options to the right-click menu.
storage, unlimitedStorage
Keep your library and settings on your device, so the browser doesn’t clear them when disk space runs low.

Share links (optional)

Nothing is shared unless you choose to. When you create a share link and confirm the upload, Linxshot sends a fixed copy to our share service at linxshot.link, hosted on Cloudflare:

  • The final image, with your annotations, masks and crops already applied
  • The capture name, the source site’s domain, and the address and text of each link. Links inside blurred or masked areas are not uploaded.
  • A random installation identifier, so you can manage and revoke your own links

Your IP address is used only to limit abuse and is stored as a one-way hash that changes daily. The page text used for search is never uploaded.

Anyone with the link can view the image and its links until the link expires or you revoke it. The validity period is shown before you share. After expiry or revocation the image is deleted by scheduled cleanup, and the remaining record is removed 7 days after the share was created. Revoking does not delete your local original, and it cannot remove copies that recipients have already saved.

Before a share is published, the share service checks its links with Google Web Risk for known phishing, malware and unwanted software. It sends Google the full addresses of up to 50 links, and only the site for any links beyond that. A share with a flagged link is not published. Google handles these lookups under its own terms.

Anyone who opens a share can report it. A report records the share, the reason chosen, an optional note and a one-way hash of the reporter’s IP address that changes daily. We review reports and take down shares that break our Terms of Service.

The share service and link checks are provided by Cloudflare and Google, so this data may be processed outside your country or region, including in the United States.

Pro licenses

Pro purchase and activation are not open yet. When they open, purchases will be processed by Creem (creem.io), which acts as our merchant of record and handles payment, taxes and receipts. Creem collects the details needed to complete your order, such as your email address, billing country and payment details, under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details so we can deliver and support your license; we never see your full card number. Activating, validating or deactivating a license sends your license key and an installation identifier to Creem’s license service.

Your license key is stored only in the extension and is never included in library backups.

This website

This website is static. It sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts or fonts, and uses no analytics. It remembers your language choice in your browser’s local storage. Like any website, the server that hosts it may keep standard request logs, such as IP address and browser type.

Once Linxshot is listed on the Chrome Web Store, links to it will take you to Google’s site, where Google’s privacy policy applies.

Launch notifications (optional)

If you enter your email address in a “Notify me” form on this website, it is sent to Kit (kit.com), the email service we use. Kit is based in the United States, stores your address under its own privacy policy, and may record basic signup details such as the date and your IP address. Kit first emails you to confirm the address; you’re added to the list only after you confirm.

We use your address only to tell you when Linxshot launches and, after that, to send occasional important product updates. We don’t sell it or share it with anyone else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can email us at any time to have your address deleted.

Your choices

  • Delete captures, or empty Recently deleted, at any time in the library.
  • Revoke share links in Settings under Manage share links.
  • Unsubscribe from launch notifications with the link in any of our emails.
  • Uninstall the extension to remove all local data.

Changes and contact

We’ll update this page, and the date above, whenever the extension’s data handling changes.
